Overview —

First case to pass a certified 5 metre drop test.

This was achieved by understanding the performance parameters of case design and material composition to maximise protection and style. This case has gone on to become the brand’s most popular impact protection case specifically focused on improved back protection for glass backed devices.

Research —

The trends show that more and more devices feature glass on the front and back.

Today, most flagship phones from the competing brands feature a glass back design, including the latest iPhone 11, the Samsung Note 10+, the Google Pixel 4 and the Huawei P30 Pro. Thus, glass-backed smartphones are the current trend and need better protection.

Design —

Drop protection was the key focus during the design process.

The user needs the product to take on anything that comes their way with confidence. The brand had exclusive access to D3O®, the same material used by the military and professional athletes. It was a crucial component in creating a case with formidable phone protection.

Through this process I completed all design tasks from concept to factory ready 3D CAD, CMF, DFM and viability calculations.

Manufacture —

To shorten the development process, you need to be in China.

Working with our team and manufacturing partners on the ground, I worked closely to troubleshoot any issues that could arise. You must spend long days and nights in the factory approving final tooling tweaks and golden sample approvals to get production started.
